94% of bts employees surveyed agree that they understand how their work helps the company to achieve its goals.

Staff development is another key focus for the company. As bts continues to grow, development opportunities often arise and we take great pleasure in driving this development internally whenever possible.
We actively encourage people in their personal development and enjoy watching them grow in their career and within the company.
We know we employ some fantastic people who have experienced very real career progressions with us.
Along with day-to-day mentoring and coaching our structured efforts to drive employee development and career progression is facilitated through various channels:

Training

Six monthly performance development reviews (appraisals):
We offer all employees the opportunity to participate in six monthly performance development reviews, in which we set clear objectives and measure progress against achievements. We also consider their future and career progression.

Individual coaching and mentoring:
Our managers place great emphasis on ensuring teams have adequate skills to perform in their roles, and ensure there is ample guidance and support available to them, either through a co-worker or assigned mentor.

A survey shows that on average, bts employees are 31 percent happier than employees at other utility/construction companies

At bts we take the health and well-being of our employees seriously.

By understanding the issues that can occur in the workplace we can support our employees and promote a healthy culture and working environment for all.
Health and wellbeing in the workplace remains a key focus for both our Human Resources and Safety agendas, and is reflected in what we do:

Excellent Safety Records:

With over 200 direct employees and the same number of subcontractors we are proud to have achieved 1000 days without losing a single man-day of work through injury. This is clear evidence of our excellent safety record. It’s achieved by staff and company working together to identify and manage the risks we each face on a daily basis.

Occupational Health provision:

Having partnered with an external occupational health provider we can provide on-hand professional support and guidance on all health and well-being matters in the workplace to all employees.

Health Surveillance:

bts carries out proactive surveillance of the health and well-being of all our staff to ensure and certify their fitness to work. With this health intervention process in place we are can actively prevent, address and monitor any employee health and well-being matters

Management training:

bts encourages the development and training of managers in aspects of health and well-being in order for them to better support and manage their teams. Training includes, but is not limited to: mental health awareness, behavioural safety training, drugs and alcohol awareness. Our ethos of continuous development supports our drive to ensure the health and well-being of our team.

Workplace pledges:

bts is committed to and will continue to sign up to the Government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal. We are mindful that public health is everyone’s concern and responsibility. We, therefore, aim to influence and support in tackling these challenges by supporting the Government initiative.

We operate within an inclusive, supportive and empowering business environment.

We encourage people to make decisions and take the next step in their career when the right opportunities become available. And our drive to encourage people to develop and grow with the business, supporting our continuous development, is grounded by our equal opportunities ethos and is reflected in the ‘Training and Development’ we provide.

BTS recognises the importance of a diverse workforce and the competitive advantage it gives us. We are proud of our committed employees who strive to do their best each day and ensure one another are supported in doing their work. Our recent staff survey and business success is evidence of this:
